Billy Enjoys the Snow!!
Normally Billy travels home on Thursdays, but this week he went home on Tuesday since there was the chance for snow. Given that we have been off the past few days it is a good thing Billy did not hang around at Calvert. I have heard that Billy is having a great time in the snow. Check out the great photo below in which he is making a fantastic snow angel!!
A Great Gift!!
For the second time in two days I got to use the snowblower that the class helped me to purchase with a giftcard over the winter holidays. The snow was deep and heavy, but with the snowblower I was done in under an hour. THANK YOU CLASS!!!

A Billy Sighting
Billy appears to be having a great time on his first trip away from the classroom as can be seen from the photo below. It looks like he is learning how to play lacrosse!!

Where Does Wind Come From?
The concept of wind came up recently in geography class, so today we explored one of its causes.Warm air, which weighs less than cold air, rises. Then cool air rushes in to fill the void caused by the warm air rising. This movement of air is one of the ways that wind is produced. When the boys went to music class today I opened the classroom windows and closed the classroom door. In thirty minutes the temperature inside the classroom dropped to 57 degrees while the hallway remained at 70 degrees. Then after music class I closed the windows and opened the door. The warm air flowed into the classroom at the top of the doorway and the cold air flowed out at the bottom of the doorway. To show the boys the flow of air I strung a piece of yarn across the door at the top and another at the bottom and attached a thin strip of kleenex to each piece of yarn. The video shows that the experiment worked as predicted.
A "Dynamite" Performance
In music class today the boys got a real treat when Mrs. Elliott taught them how to play Dynamite by Taio Cruz. For those of you unfamiliar with this song, there is a link to it in my playlist in the red music player further down on the right hand side of the blog. Great job boys!!!

Science Flashcards
Miss Gentry was kind enough to assemble a great set of flashcards on Quizlet to help the students study for the test they will have in science class next Friday. The cards can be seen here.

BILLY!!!
For the past eleven years I have been speaking in class of a hypothetical student named Billy. Students throughout the years have asked who Billy is, and now at long last I finally have an answer. Billy, who can be seen below, is the newest member of our class. He will be attending classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. He will go home with one of the students each Thursday and come back to school by Tuesday morning. I will post pictures of any adventures he has throughout the year, here on the blog.

An Awesome Assembly
What an amazing day!!! The boys and girls had an assembly in which they were treated to a professional pep rally complete with members of the marching band, some of the cheerleaders, two live raven birds (one of who flaps to the beat in the video), and one of the mascots. As you can see from the picture, the boys really got into the spirit of the day.
Go RAVENS!!!!!
